Background of the Study
Quantum computing is poised to revolutionize various industries, including information technology, finance, and healthcare. However, its adoption is hindered by a lack of awareness and understanding, especially among professionals who are key drivers of technological advancement. In Nigeria, the level of awareness of quantum computing among IT professionals in polytechnics and universities is relatively low. Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, provides an opportunity to assess the knowledge and understanding of quantum computing among IT professionals and identify the factors affecting its adoption.

Quantum computing offers numerous advantages over classical computing, particularly in fields such as data processing, cryptography, and machine learning. However, for Nigeria to fully harness the potential of quantum computing, it is crucial to increase awareness and provide relevant training to IT professionals. This study will investigate the level of quantum computing awareness among IT professionals at Federal Polytechnic, Bida, and explore their attitudes towards adopting this emerging technology.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the immense potential of quantum computing, there is a significant gap in awareness and knowledge among IT professionals in Nigeria. Many of these professionals may be unaware of the opportunities and challenges posed by quantum computing, limiting their ability to integrate it into their work. Federal Polytechnic, Bida, serves as a key institution for training future IT professionals, yet it remains unclear how aware its IT professionals are of quantum computing. This study aims to assess the level of quantum computing awareness and identify the barriers to its adoption.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the level of quantum computing awareness among IT professionals at Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

  2. To identify the factors that influence the awareness and adoption of quantum computing among IT professionals.

  3. To explore the potential for integrating quantum computing into the IT curriculum at Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

Research Questions

  1. What is the level of quantum computing awareness among IT professionals at Federal Polytechnic, Bida?

  2. What factors influence the awareness and adoption of quantum computing among IT professionals?

  3. How can quantum computing be integrated into the IT curriculum at Federal Polytechnic, Bida?

Significance of the Study
This research will provide valuable insights into the current state of quantum computing awareness among IT professionals in Nigeria. The findings will inform policy decisions regarding curriculum development and training programs aimed at fostering quantum computing skills among IT professionals.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on IT professionals at Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State. It will not extend to other polytechnics or universities in Nigeria.
